The progress made our living comfortable and much more entertaining. There are thousand ways to apply your creativity. Why wouldn't we try to get ourselves into photography? You just need to grab your smartphone or any camera and you can take awesome pictures. That's everything fine, but the understanding of composition, light, colors and quality is also very important.
Today I want to submit an interview with my friend Dominik Day. A 27-year-old photographer and digital artist from Minsk (Belarus), also known as a founder of Laboratorium 712.
How did you become a photographer?
Incidentally, I was engaged in drawing since childhood, and I managed it well. But I've never loved anything to copy. So long ago I realized that I don't want to be an academic painter. Even as a child I wanted to try myself at photography. Somehow my desire disappeared over the years up to a certain period. Later, I decided to enroll in the Academy of Arts, where it was required to take Russian language, history and photography courses. I had only 3 months before the admission to learn about photography.
How long have you been doing photography?
Since 2006. Thereat I picked up my father 's old camera Zenit-E and started shooting. Finishing shooting the first film, I showed the photographs to the masters of the Academy and my first works were surprisingly appreciated. In order to shoot often, I bought my first digital camera Canon PowerShot A610, which I still take with me, sometimes. Later my mother helped me out with money and I bought a Nikon D50 by which most of my works are done. I chose the Nikon purely from a combination of price, quality and reliability.
Can you make money out of photography or it is just a hobby?
It is rather a hobby. I don't earn much money and a regular income yet. Maybe it is because I am not interested in working at weddings and corporate parties.
What does inspire you? Where do you look for creative solution?
Music, movies, books, pictures, architecture, nature and so on. All that inspires me. Once I saw a whole concept in an abstract drawing on the floor. Long time I had a primary muse named Liza. I believe that art cannot be driven into a “rigid frameworks”, but the frameworks should still exist.
Where do you seek models and how long does it take ladies to persuade for a nude photo shooting?
The main source of model search is the internet, but also dating sites (but now they are not relevant), in order to find interesting types. I pretty well understand the psychology and behavior patterns. So if a person does not want to appear nude, then I will not waste time on persuasion. As a rule, it is meaningless.
What is your life motto?
Well, I haven't. It is enough for me simply to live and enjoy the life.
What would you advise for beginners?
Enjoy what you are doing. Do not approach to the art as a business, because if you put money in the top, it is better to drop the case. And do not be afraid to experiment.
